Submit Yourselves to the Authorities or Governing Body
Romans 13:1
Let
everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority
except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been
established by God
A government is the system or group of people governing an
organized community, often a state. In the case of its broad associative definition, government
normally consists of legislature, executive, and judiciary. Government is a
means by which organizational policies are enforced, as well as a mechanism for
determining policy. Each government has a kind of constitution, a statement of
its governing principles and philosophy. This is according to wikipedia.
If you are a citizen of a state or a country, you should follow it's statutes or laws. In the verse above, it is written that, everyone living in a particular state or country, should be subjected to the governing body of that country, without exception. Most specially when that governing authority or authorities had been elected or chosen by majority of the people it governs.
Paying taxes eg. income, realty, property and all the tax that the state are collecting is one statute a citizen should follow. You should not commit any crime against fellow citizen or against the state itself. The penalty of all violations is jailtime or whatever penalty is appropriate for the violations one has committed.
The Philippines for instance, once upon a time has a death penalty for certain major violations against the state or people but later on was abolished, Brunei, one of our ASEAN neighbor has just implemented elements of their so called Sharia Law. The penalty of death by stoning against those who committed adultery, sodomy, rape, apostasy, blasphemy and those who insult Islam.
It may seem too harsh, but it is their law and everyone living in that country should follow. Even the bible say it so. When the people of Israel is clamoring for a king to rule over them, the prophet Samuel warned them saying;
1 Samuel 8: 13-18
“This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”
The people of Israel prevailed in their clamor and the prophet Samuel anointed Saul as their first king. King Saul ruled over Israel until his death. He was followed by David, God's chosen one who ruled over the Jews with justice.
Again submit yourselves to those who are governing the state or country you are currently living. Until our Lord Jesus Christ returns as King of kings and Lord of lords, to rule over his chosen ones.
